Our wooden handles are certified from both a quality and environmental point of view
The word “quality” has become commonplace in all production industries, and the world of wooden handles is certainly no exception in this sense.
The word “quality”, however, has one characteristic – if it is used inappropriately, in the long run, people start to understand. The market, the buyers, the users of the product know how to distinguish a quality product from a mediocre one. As if that were not enough, there is a tool capable of objectively establishing the quality level of a product: certifications.
We at Foppoli Bramin strongly believe in what we do and are satisfied when our work is recognized and certified.
In the field of wooden handles for tools, there are different types of certifications, and here are ours.
Respect for the environment: FSC® certification
As we anticipated in our previous articles, Foppoli Bramin Srl has been producing, for over a century, wooden handles for hoes, pickaxes, shovels, hammers and various tools, consequently making use of an irreplaceable raw material: high-quality wood.
Wood is obtained from trees, so as producers of wooden handles, we feel a great responsibility: to protect and protect forests, ensuring responsible management of the green areas and forests.
In order to minimize the impact of our production we have moved on three fronts:
- We have optimized production: by introducing energy-efficient equipment with great yield into the production cycle, we have reduced energy consumption and waste deriving from the various stages of wood processing to a minimum. Consequently, we have reduced the amount of initial raw material and any possible waste.
- We also use waste: in more than 100 years of experience we have learned that all waste can be reused in a different way depending on the principles of the circular economy. All production waste – slivers, shavings, and sawdust – are reused for the production of clean fuel (because it is free of resins, glues and paints, odorless and with a great calorific value).
- We use FSC® certified wood: in the production of our wooden handles, we use wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which certifies the origin of the material with the tracing of the products and the responsible management of forests. FSC® certification is based on a series of rules that serve to protect trees (with rotating cuts and reforestation and compensation policies), but also local communities and the social and economic well-being of workers. The Forest Stewardship Council certification is essential because it guarantees the monitoring of forests, ecosystems and local communities. We want to be consistent with our history and with the work of the generations that preceded us.
A recognition of excellence
Our story speaks for us, however the past isn’t enough to gain some accolades. We also need the will and desire to innovate, as well as the push to experiment with new technologies in order to improve production and reduce environmental impact.
This great attention to the environment and the optimization of the production cycle have allowed us to obtain the recognition of Artisan excellence by the Lombardy Region.
The project was launched by the Lombardy Region and Unioncamere Lombardia to support the craftsmanship industry (wood, metals, textiles and more) with models and ideas for innovation.
Because even in highly traditional sectors like ours, it is possible and necessary to do more and work better for high-quality, sustainable and certified products.
