Foppoli Bramin protects the environment by eliminating some types of paints from the production of wooden handles
Responsibility towards the environment is a fundamental point for many companies today: our planet requires increasingly drastic measures in order to reduce waste, pollutants and carbon dioxide emissions, because the time left to reverse climate change is running out. According to the Foppoli Bramin philosophy, as manufacturers of wooden handles for tools we have the responsibility to be even more careful, due to the fact that we work with a raw material that comes directly from forests.
We have already talked about our PEFC and FSC® certifications, which certify the protected and sustainable origin of wood for our tool handles, and we have also already talked about our circular economic system that allows us to reuse and limit production waste.
The real sustainable innovation in Foppoli Bramin is another: we have decided to reduce the use of paints.
Less paint means greater sustainability
We often talk about the fundamental raw material for our production of tool handles, namely wood, although obviously wood is not the only material used in our lines.
Among the other products necessary for the manufacturing of Foppoli Bramin wooden handles, there are also paints, which often have a merely decorative role.
As a matter of fact, our company offers the possibility to customise the wooden handles for tools with the colours and logos of those who commission them – this is often done with direct printing on wood with inks and paints.
Our initial choice was to reduce and then eliminate paints with solvents, as they pollute and are harmful to the environment, and replace them with more environmentally friendly water-based paints.
These paints emit up to 95% less harmful substances than traditional solvent paints.
However, Foppoli Bramin has decided to go a step further, completely eliminating (where possible) the use of paints for aesthetic purposes from the production process.
“There are some essential elements in the manufacture of wooden handles” – explains Simone Foppoli, owner of Foppoli Bramin – “and then there are some factors, often details, which instead can have a purely aesthetic value and not functional. In our case, some coatings on the handles only served to make them more visible, for example, in the racks of shopping centres.”
“We have therefore decided to take an additional step towards protecting the environment, also eliminating this type of pollutant. In this way, we have removed all unnecessary paints from the production chain. We think this is an obligation, and that does not undermine in any way the possibility for our customer to customise our wooden handles in the most appropriate way.”

- The line of wooden handles for construction and building: includes sledgehammers and blacksmith’s hammers, carpentry hammers, shovels, pickaxes and spades, in addition to brooms for construction sites.
- The line of wooden handles for agriculture: includes pitchforks and rakes, shovels, pickaxes, spades, oval/square/rectangular hoes, round hoes.
- The line of wooden handles for gardening: includes shovels, rakes, hoes and small hoes, pickaxes and spades.
