ESG: a new certification for Foppoli Bramin

ESG – Environmental Social Governance guarantees the protection of workers and communities

We have always stated that working with a noble and precious raw material such as wood is a great honour for our company, but also a great responsibility. As a result, when we produce our wooden tool handles, we are responsible for our impact on the environment and biodiversity, working hard in order to obtain all the necessary certifications that allow us to work in the best possible way.

However, the impact of a company is not only determined by its environment footprint. The ethical status of a company can also be seen in the impact it has on the social structure in which it operates, from workers to larger communities.
In essence, social certifications open a window on company culture, showing how the company stands towards those who work behind the scenes: employees, suppliers and the local community. Moreover, certifications that attest to the presence of excellent governance are important because they guarantee that the company is guided by a reliable moral compass and that decisions are made honestly. This also means that there is a real commitment against corruption.

There is a certification that encompasses the three environmental, social and governance aspects: ESG certification. It is not mandatory, but we at Foppoli Bramin have decided to work to obtain it, and that is the reason why we are proud of this.

What is ESG Certification

ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance and refers to three key aspects through which companies measure their sustainable and social impact. The environmental aspect focuses on the company’s impact on the natural world, while the social aspect considers the company’s relationship with its employees, suppliers, customers and the communities in which it operates. Lastly, governance refers to corporate leadership, remuneration, governance hearings (also called “multi-level governance”) and shareholder rights.

ESG certification is not mandatory however it is indicative of the level of integration of sustainable practices within company strategies. First of all, it requires a transparent analysis and reporting system that includes these aspects:

Energy efficiency
Water resource management
Reduction of emissions
Waste management and circular economy
Social development
Training and fair conditions for employees
Transparency in the supply chain
Corporate governance

ESG certification – and this is the factor that really counts – goes far beyond the simple evaluation of eco-friendly practices or socially responsible policies. It represents a guarantee of sustainability over time because it regulates and gives a sort of quality seal to every aspect of the company, from the supply chain to internal procedures, from governance to interaction with the environment and above all to the relationship with stakeholders.
When a company like Foppoli Bramin carries out ESG certification, it is choosing to operate in such a way that its every action is sustainable in the long term: in practice, this means that in the supply chain the company only works with suppliers who share the same sustainability values, ensuring that every material and every service comes from responsible and environmentally friendly sources. At the governance level, to take another example, certification requires ethical and transparent management also to maintain the trust and support of all stakeholders, from employees to investors, from customers to the local community.

As already mentioned, ESG Certification is not mandatory, but demonstrates genuine commitment on a path towards corporate social responsibility.
