Wooden handles, emerging markets

Not only Africa, but also India and China, are among the countries with the highest demand for wooden tool handles. Here is the reason why.

The history of Foppoli Bramin – which you have now come to know as a benchmark in the production of wooden tool handles – is a clear example of how quality can transform a traditional product into an international success.
Starting from Valtellina, Italy, we have gradually expanded into the various emerging markets, which, for various reasons, have seen a demand for wooden handles increase over time.

One of these regions is the Middle East, as well as North Africa. This market includes several rapidly growing areas such as North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, the Fertile Crescent countries, as well as Turkey and Iran. These countries are characterised by high population growth and intense construction activity. Therefore, they have a growing need for high-quality wooden tool handles, especially in the construction sector, but also in agriculture, where demand is driven by commercial needs rather than subsistence agriculture.

New emerging markets: India and China

However, we have recently seen that North Africa and the Middle East are no longer the sole leaders in this growth. India and China are increasing their demand for wooden handles for work tools (hatches, hammers, hoes) and not by chance. These two nations are among the most populous in the world and are experiencing rapid economic development. This growth translates into an exponential increase in demand in key sectors such as construction and agriculture.
In India, the construction boom is also fuelled by the need for infrastructure for a constantly growing population. On the other hand, China, with its impressive urban and industrial development, requires reliable tools to support a rapid transformation. In both countries, intensive agriculture is increasing for the same reason, also due to the fact that, especially in India – after the so-called Green Revolution – cash crops are quite widespread, (i.e., higher income crops such as coffee, sugar cane, bananas, etc.).
What we as Foppoli Bramin can do is provide these countries with wooden handles for quality tools and above all products that are sustainable and certified in order to protect the planet.

Thanks to the spread of handles built with wood from certified forests and whose biodiversity is protected, we can contribute to giving a positive and constructive boost to the construction and agriculture of these countries.
